Overview

This concert is open to all Midwest Clinic attendees. Registration is required.

Northshore Concert Band returns to the Midwest Clinic with a program that charts a powerful journey from darkness to light. Shostakovich’s Prelude in E-flat Minor opens with a somber tone, followed by Adolphus Hailstork’s searing American Guernica — a remembrance of four children killed in a racially motivated church bombing in 1963. Never Forgetting by St. Olaf College’s Henry Dorn, commissioned for the Band’s Midwest Clinic appearance, reflects on the emotions that endure long after words and actions fade. Crossing the Atlantic, Michele Fernández’s La Fiera Asturiana offers a bold Spanish march infused with flamenco flair. Saint-Saëns’ playful Pas redoublé injects a spark of levity before the program hurtles to its conclusion in the fervent, cathartic finale of David Maslanka’s Symphony No. 2.
