What We Did On Our Summer Vacation 2024 - Part 2
NCB members share more "What I Did on My Summer Vacation" stories!
On June 1, Nancy Swanson (oboe) and her husband Paul co-officiated the wedding of their niece Kate to her now husband Sean. It was truly a special time for their whole family!
On August 16, several NCB members performed with the Evanston Symphony Orchestra on their summer concert.
The concert was scheduled to be outdoors at the Wallace Bowl in Wilmette, but due to inclement weather, it moved indoors to the auditorium at Evanston Township High School.
Picture L-R: Jon Ibach (horn), Dan DiCesare (trombone), Nyketa DiCesare, Annie Grapentine (trumpet), Matt Bordoshuk (clarinet), and a special appearance by NCB alum Sylvia Carlson.
This summer Bruce Nelson (euphonium) acquired an Alphorn - a Pilatus model made in Switzerland in the 1980s. Ever since accepting an invitation to play one at a local German restaurant, he has been interested in owning an Alphorn, perhaps to challenge himself to learn something new, or maybe just because it looks cool. Bruce says that he will always be a euphonium player, but perhaps someday he will be able to play the Alphorn with sufficient competence to offer demonstrations to interested parties, or even participate in the annual Alphornfest in the Swiss mountains!
