Rachel Beil

Rachel Beil plays the Clarinet and is a student and part-time Sales Associate at the Symphony Store.

What do you enjoy most about playing?

I love playing bass and Eb clarinet, and I am teaching myself a little violin when I have time.

Do you have a favorite musical memory?

Playing in the Musikverein in Vienna, Austria with my youth orchestra.

Please tell us a bit about your journey in music and life.

I have been playing the clarinet since 5th grade, but it wasn’t until my junior year of high school that I fell in love with music. At 16, I would drive 2 hours each way twice a week after school for youth orchestra and lessons. I did my undergrad at the University of Cincinnati, majoring in Music and minoring in Classics with a certificate in Ancient Greek. I moved to Chicago last year to study at DePaul and I currently am roommates with a 12 pound orange tabby named Clementine.

What have been some of your musical influences?

My late great-aunt played the trumpet in high school and introduced me to classical music. She would take me to every opera, ballet, or musical touring through our small town. And came to every concert she could.

What is on your Spotify playlist or in your music library?

Current favorite artists: Laufey, Rachel Chinouriri, Lizzy McAlpine, Chappell Roan, The Last Dinner Party, and many more

Please share any thoughts that you may have about the Northshore Concert Band.

Northshore Concert Band has been a wonderful experience so far! To play with such a wonderful group of musicians under such great tutelage is a highlight of my week. I was convinced to audition by other members of the band, and I’m so glad I did!

Please add anything else that you would like our audience to know.

I spent 10 years of my childhood competitive Irish dancing. Yes, wigs and all.
