What We Did On Our Summer Vacation 2025 - Part 4

The NCB family's incredible summer journey continues! We're thrilled to bring you the fourth installment of our favorite vacation memories and photos. Our members have been eagerly sharing their experiences, whether they've explored far-flung corners of the world or discovered amazing adventures right in their own backyards.

Katie McCarthy (horn) and her family embarked on an amazing 60-mile bike-packing adventure with the fantastic organization, Out Our Front Door. They were one of about ten families, all with kids in tow, who cycled 30 miles from Chicago to Camp Shabbona Woods in Holland, IL, led by their trusty guides.

To her surprise, Sylvia Carlson, a former NCB trumpet section leader, and her family were also part of the group! Sylvia and Katie spent the weekend getting to know each other's families, all while reminiscing about their time in NCB and their shared love for brass playing. It was a truly wonderful time!

NCB member Joe Schorer‘s (trombone) summer took an exciting turn when his son Max and daughter-in-law Sara, expecting a baby around late July, invited him and his wife, Millie, to their San Francisco Bay Area home. They eagerly agreed to help with their three-year-old granddaughter Lily, and decided to extend their stay until early September to provide ongoing support for the new family.

Their relaxed four-day drive from Chicago to San Francisco included stops in Nebraska, Wyoming, Utah, and Nevada. However, their leisurely journey changed dramatically in Winnemucca, Nevada, as they received excited texts from their son Max: Sara was in labor! Joe and Millie quickly drove into California, arriving at the hospital just hours after the arrival of Sebastian Joseph Schorer, a healthy 9-pound, 4-ounce baby boy!
