KEN PREUSS

Ken Preuss plays the trombone and is a Marketing Consultant. Ken is pictured with his girlfriend Amy while on vacation in Boston, MA.

What do you enjoy most about playing?

What I enjoy most is striving for the best tone and clarity on every note, as well as collaborating with the rest of the band to achieve musical excellence.

Do you have a favorite musical memory?

Playing in Carnegie Hall when I was 16 years old. Incredible!

Who was your most influential music teacher?

Charlie Vernon of the Chicago Symphony. I was fortunate to study with him starting at a fairly young age.

Does anyone in your family play music?

My twin sister played and studied clarinet for years, and my mom was quite talented on a small organ that we had in our house growing up.

What are your musical influences?

My musical background includes instrumental music, of course, but also singing and musical theater. So, my musical influences are quite diverse! You can often catch me listening to great brass playing (both present and past musicians) as well as exceptional performances of vocalists and theatre professionals.

What is on your Spotify playlist or in your music library?

I listen to plenty of music performances, but interestingly enough what I listen to and watch most are interviews with great performers. I enjoy learning about their path to excellence and seeing which breakthroughs of theirs I can apply to myself.

What makes performing with Northshore Concert Band different than performing with other groups?

The top-notch caliber of the conductor and band members. It's an exhilarating experience to perform in a situation where every single person is committed to reaching such a high level, both individually and as an ensemble.

List three words to describe the Northshore Concert Band.

Dedicated, Expressive, Joyful

Please add anything else that you would like our audience to know.

The brass players are the most fun people in any band! :D Some are even a bit goofy (ahem)
