RYAN FOSSIER
Ryan Fossier plays the horn and is an Orchestra Librarian & Administrator.
What do you enjoy most about playing?
I love bringing someone else's musical ideas to life!
Do you have a favorite musical memory?
My graduate school composition recital — it is hard to explain how it feels to listen to some of your closest friends bring something you made to life. It is so intimate and collaborative.
Who was your most influential music teacher?
My most influential music teacher would have to be my college wind ensemble director, Dr. Belva Prather (a NCB alum!).
Does anyone in your family play music?
My grandfather played clarinet up through the end of his life in the Lexington Bicentennial Band in Lexington, Massachusetts. He also had a dance band back in the 1950-60s where he played saxes and wrote all their arrangements.
What are your musical influences?
The biggest influences on me musically would have to be Igor Stravinsky, Samuel Barber, Paul Hindemith, Ben Folds, Elton John, and Björk.
What is on your Spotify playlist or in your music library?
SO MUCH MUSIC. I have been obsessively collecting albums since music started becoming available digitally. I have eclectic tastes, too, so I have a little bit of everything. The most recent album I was listening to is "Aim and Ignite" from Fun., and my recent obsession is Anna Meredith.
What makes performing with Northshore Concert Band different than performing with other groups?
I've never been in such a large community band that plays at such a high level.
List three words to describe the Northshore Concert Band.
Big, Fun, Band
Please add anything else that you would like our audience to know.
My thumbs are double-jointed.
