ALEX RIEMER
Alex plays Horn and helps manage a landscaping company.
What do you enjoy most about playing?
The sense of achievement after practicing something I couldn’t play at first, and the feeling when the whole band is playing together at the top of its ability.
Do you have a favorite musical memory?
As a high school madrigal singer, performing in two or three churches every Sunday in December.
Who was your most influential music teacher?
Dr. Pat Miles at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Does anyone in your family play music?
Most of my family play instruments or sing. Our parents encouraged us and our hometown is very active musically.
What’s on your iPod?
A pretty wide range of "classical," from symphonic, wind ensemble, and choral rep, to brass band and chamber music, jazz standards, film and Broadway, folk, bluegrass, and electronic music.
What makes performing with Northshore Concert Band different than performing with other groups?
The continuity of the band and membership over decades. Few community groups have the time or stability to develop an ethos like NCB.
