When COVID-19 canceled the second half of our 2019-2020 Season we formulated a plan to return to safely making music in person. We were able to return to outdoor rehearsals in Fall 2020 and several virtual concerts were created through recordings made during these rehearsals. You can enjoy these virtual concerts on our YouTube page here.

When in-person rehearsals ceased in November 2020, Tyler Holstrom, NCB clarinetist, partnered with NCB tubist Kevin Baldwin, to create NCB Replay — a limited series of archival concert footage, presented free of charge on our social media pages. “I dusted off the video hard drive from Kevin,” said Holstrom, “and started sifting through the concert videos, made a list of every available piece of music, and started to piece together themed programs.”

With programming planned through the summer, our first program, "Love is Friendship Set to Music," premiered on Valentine’s Day. The program focused on music about love and music made with friends including performances with the Westchester Symphonic Winds (Curt Ebersole, Music Director), the 2016 Lifetime of Music Initiative student musician participants, and NCB alumni.

In March, we will present two premiere events on our Facebook page. The first, "March Forth!", is a series of four marches aired throughout the day on March 4, National Marching Band Day. This march marathon starts at 9:30 am with Paul Hindemith’s March from Symphonic Metamorphosis, followed by marches by John Philip Sousa and Samuel Barber.

Daylight Savings Time begins on March 14 and we will premiere a concert on this day appropriately titled "Spring Ahead!". It will consist of music celebrating mother nature. Included is a performance of Ottorino Respighi's Pines of Rome along with music by Steven Bryant and John Mackey.

On April 11, NCB we will premiere "Guests in the House," a selection of performances with guest artists from years past. Included is the season opener from our 2015-2016 season, Zero to Sixty! — an NCB commission from Michael Martin in celebration of our sixtieth season. Michael Martin also appears on that program alongside his brother, New York Philharmonic Principal Trumpet Christopher Martin, in Donald Hunsberger's Carmen Fantasia for Two Trumpets and Wind Ensemble.

There are two video concerts in May. The first is titled “May the Fourth Be With You” and is on May 4. This Star Wars celebration will feature John Williams's "Scherzo for X-Wings" from Star Wars, Episode VII: The Force Awakens. On May 23, we will pay tribute to our founder, the late John P. Paynter, in celebration of his birthday.

In years past, we have celebrated the 4th of July with a rousing live concert filled with many patriotic favorites. With in-person concerts on hold, we will present an all-American program virtually on July 4th.

All the video concerts included in the series “NCB Replay: Musical Chestnuts from Northshore Concert Band’s Archives” can be viewed on their release dates on our Facebook page. Each concert will also be added to our YouTube page following its premiere.
