Overview

Homeland is more than a place on a map: it lives in the melodies we inherit, the values we defend, and the hopes we carry forward. Across a program spanning march tradition, patriotic reinvention, vivid contemporary color, and influences from around the world, composers ask what it means to belong — and what we choose to carry with us. A suite drawn from Malcolm Arnold’s Four Scottish Dances, English Dances, and Cornish Dances carries the colors and character of the British Isles into the concert hall, with arrangements by John P. Paynter adding a meaningful thread to the Band’s own artistic heritage. Julius Fučík brings ceremonial brilliance to the European march, and Charles Ives gleefully turns a familiar American tune inside out. Works by Viet Cuong, Lindsay Bronnenkant, and Aakash Mittal broaden the landscape further, exploring hope, compassion, cultural identity, and peaceful demonstration.
