Our outreach concerts provide local students and audience members with unforgettable experiences, filling their concert halls with the resplendent sounds of the wind band. Join us in February for Tributes & Innovations, a synthesis of works paying homage to our musical forebears while embracing the creative minds shaping classical music today. A new work by Jay Kennedy commemorates Mallory Thompson’s transformative leadership of the Northshore Concert Band, honoring her ongoing influence and visionary artistic direction. Brilliant middle school musicians join us on stage for our annual side-by-side performance, including selections from How to Train Your Dragon and Jaime Texidor’s Amparito Roca.
Spirited Away

Spirituality in its varied forms unfolds on April’s program, Spirited Away. Highlights include the timeless Eternal Father, Strong to Save; Reena Esmail’s inventive Chamak, which fuses Hindustani ragas with the wind band medium; the enchanting music of Joe Hisaishi; and Yasuhide Ito’s reverent Gloriosa, capturing the essence of Japanese culture and spirituality.

Enjoy Gustav Holst’s classic First Suite in E-flat; Jun Nagao’s lilting The Earth, a confluence of several of Holst’s most treasured works; Arturo Márquez’s sultry Danzon No. 2; and the epic “Adventures on Earth” from E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.

Our 69th season opens with Resilience, a thought-provoking program that exemplifies the enduring strength of the human spirit. The concert features Gala Flagello’s vivacious Bravado, Omar Thomas’ pulsating A Mother of a Revolution!, and Karel Husa’s profound and evocative Music for Prague 1968, which juxtaposes the chaos of war with bird calls symbolizing the Czech people’s resolve and yearning for freedom.
