Join the Northshore Concert Band for our 2023/24 Season and immerse yourself in a captivating symphonic journey exploring transformation and transfiguration in music!
Our 68th season begins with Treats & Tricks, a mesmerizing survey of Halloween’s magic and mystique, featuring pillars of the wind band repertoire, alluring melodies from the silver screen, and selections from Gustav Holst’s The Planets. Join us in February as we celebrate our 20th annual Lifetime of Music concert with compositions that have transformed over time into fascinating music for winds, including Paul Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis on Themes of Carl Maria von Weber. Witness the brilliance of middle school musicians as they join us on stage for our annual side-by-side performance, showcasing music by Omar Thomas and Kevin Day.
Renowned saxophonist Taimur Sullivan joins us in April for a performance of William Bolcom’s Concerto for Soprano Saxophone and Band on Making Waves, alongside exciting and thought-provoking works including Jay Kennedy’s Catapult, two disparate settings of “Shenandoah,” and Frank Ticheli’s big band-inspired Blue Shades. Our season ends on a high note with Life Cycles, delving into pieces influenced by one’s passage through life with music by David Biedenbender, Jennifer Jolley, and Leonard Bernstein.
Our 2023/24 Season features a remarkable number of inaugural performances by the Band. In total, fifteen works will receive their Northshore Concert Band premiere this season, including Joe Hisaishi’s Howl’s Moving Castle (2004/2010), Florence Price’s Adoration (1951/2022), Carter Pann’s Hold This Boy and Listen (2008), and James Beckel’s Symphony for Band (2008).
