Alec Fenne plays the Trombone and is a Middle School Band Director.

What do you enjoy most about playing?

I love the moments in music that leave you speechless. I also love the versatility and power of the trombone.

Do you have a favorite musical memory?

I’ve been fortunate to perform a lot of great music in my playing career. I would say a memory that continues to stick is performing Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 during my undergraduate studies at Butler University. I felt like I was on top of the world!

Who was your most influential music teacher?

My high school band director, Pat Frederick.

Does anyone in your family play music?

My dad is a trumpet player and performs with the Fox Valley Brass Band and Prairie Brass Band. The rest of my family are all very musical, but he is the only one that actively performs today.

What are your musical influences?

I am influenced by a variety of genres and performers. Speaking specifically to trombone, I love the sounds of Joe Alessi, Marshall Gilkes, Charlie Vernon, and Scott Hartman. However, I started my musical journey playing the drum set at an early age. I was influenced greatly by bands like Rush, Green Day, and Breaking Benjamin. I still get my rock on from time to time!

What is on your Spotify playlist or in your music library?

Artists I have been listening to lately are Young the Giant, Foo Fighters, and Noah Kahan. I also have an ever growing “Classical” playlist with all my favorite band and orchestra pieces.

What makes performing with Northshore Concert Band different than performing with other groups?

While I have only been part of the group a couple of weeks, I can already tell the attention to detail and supportive environment is unlike any ensemble I have been a part of. This is a great group of fine musicians who all have a common goal to perform music at the highest level. I’m really looking forward to being a part of this group!

List three words to describe the Northshore Concert Band.

Enthusiastic, supportive, welcoming.

Please add anything else that you would like our audience to know.

I am extremely thankful and proud to be a part of this group. I’m looking forward to a fantastic season!
