Key Features of the NCB Festival
of Music, according to past participants
| |
Our solo & ensemble judges are supportive
and give extensive feedback, both oral and written. |
| |
|
| |
“I’ve been taking students here for 10
to 15 years because the judges are so great.
They’re consistent;
they’re educational; and they’re supportive. They really
motivate the students.”
—Steven Katz, Orchestra Director, Niles West High School, Skokie, IL |
| |
|
 |
“Our judge gave us good suggestions that
will help us in the future and was really
nice about it.”
—6th grader, Golf Middle School, Morton Grove, IL |
| |
 |
| |
Our concert band clinics provide an opportunity
that isn’t available anywhere else. Bands work with highly
regarded university directors—all of whom have a great
deal of clinic experience—in a noncompetitive, non-rated
format. |
| |
|
| |
“This is an exceptional festival
because you get to work with such great
people…they’re
wonderful. When you come to the Northshore
Band Festival you know you’re
getting a quality clinic.”
—Greg Wojcik, Band Director, Glenbrook South High School, Glenview, IL |
| |
|
 |
"The Northshore Band Festival is a great tool
to alleviate the jitters and get the bugs out before
the city and state adjudicated contests.”
—Frank Menzies, Director of Instrumental Music, William Jones College Prep,
Chicago, IL |
| |
 |
| |
The master classes, recital, and Northshore Band
performance make for a more complete educational experience
than a regular solo/ensemble adjudication event. |
 |
|
| |
“The biggest advantage for me to come to the
Northshore Band Festival is that it accommodates
my group which consists of a multitude of ages—5th graders through
seniors in high school. We get a variety of experience, and I don’t
have to go to different sites to get the
same job done. I get everything done
in one day.”
—Karen Kurtz, Band Director, Westlake Christian Academy, Grayslake, IL |
| |
 |
| |
Participants appreciate our efforts to coordinate
performance times, so that students can participate in many
components of the Festival. |
 |
|
| |
“The staff is extremely flexible in working
out time conflicts for the students
performing.”
—Chelsea Valenzo, Chicago, IL |
| |
 |
| |
It’s a great opportunity for students
to visit a major university and for bands to perform in an
acoustically
superior facility like Pick-Staiger Concert
Hall. |
 |
|
| |
“We come back to this Festival every year because
there are always good clinicians,
and it’s a chance to play in Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, which is a thrill
because it’s a very resonant, vibrant facility.”
—John Thomson, Director of Bands, New Trier High School, Winnetka, IL |
